Cinema Every Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter Kill, Ranked By Silliness

Friday the 13th is one of the horror movies that led to the popularity of the slasher horror genre, following in the footsteps of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween. The big difference between the Friday the 13th series and those movies is that there's been more than one character doing all the killing in the series. While Jason Vorhees is the most notable in the franchise, the series also featured Pamela Voorhees (Jason's mother) and Roy (pretending to be Jason) as the killer, along with some supernatural elements that keep raising the stakes as the movies went on.

And Jason has killed a lot of people over the years. The fourth movie, The Final Chapter, is a somewhat more grounded slasher movie than later entries, when the series leaned harder into the supernatural elements (including sitting on a boat for 75% of a movie before arriving in a major city). So to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter's release on April 13, 1984, let's take a look at everyone Jason killed in the movie and rank them based on how silly the murder is.
14. Rob hates gardening now

14. Rob hates gardening now

Timestamp: 1:15:21
Rob enters a room looking for Jason, but at first, finds nothing. Naturally, Jason pops up and relentlessly beats Rob to death with a handheld garden hoe. It's a bit more of a vicious scene rather than a silly death. This is the reason it's last place. Jason, this is just malicious. How dare you!?
Silliness rating: 2.5

13. Here's your scalpel, doctor

13. Here's your scalpel, doctor

Timestamp: 14:27
Nurse Robbie is in the backroom, cleaning up, after almost having sex right next to Jason's corpse. What a way to kick off this movie. Jason pops up behind her after making one kill, and he's hungry for another. He lifts Robbie with one hand and sticks a scalpel in her. He also then forces the scalpel down, pretty much gutting her. It's not a very silly kill as far as Jason kills go. However, the lead-up to it is very funny and predictable, but again, not silly.
Silliness rating: 3

12. Don't swim in the lake, after dark, naked

12. Don't swim in the lake, after dark, naked

Timestamp: 43:45
Samantha decides to go skinny-dipping in the lake at night. And you can't get naked in horror films because that means the baddie will murder you. Anyway, she gets into a raft to hang out alone, and, of course, Jason pops out of the water and stabs through Sam's stomach from underneath the raft. It's very much a classic murder in a slasher horror film.

Silliness rating: 4

11. Get outta here!

11. Get outta here!

Timestamp: 1:02:01
It's raining out--because horror movie--and from inside the house, Tina hears some spooky noises. She looks outside to see where said noise is coming from--because horror movie. Tina can't seem to find it, so she turns away. As she does this, Jason breaks through the window, grabs her by her hair, and tosses her out of the house, where she lands on top of a car. If you put Scorpion's catchphrase "Get over here" over the movie, it would be a perfect scene. Regardless of that not happening, it's still a relatively silly moment.
Silliness rating: 5.5

10. Let me AXE you a question! Get it? Axe.

10. Let me AXE you a question! Get it? Axe.

Timestamp: 1:09:03
Description: After finding her boyfriend's dead body in the shower, a terrified Sara runs to the locked door, trying to escape her eventual fate. However, what she doesn't know is that Jason is behind that door, and he throws an axe through the door and into her chest.

Silliness rating: 6.5

9. Jason is art

9. Jason is art

Timestamp: 51:50
Almost all of Jason's kills happen right in front of the camera. What if the director decided to take Jason's reign of terror in an artistic direction, though? Terrified Terri is headed to her bike in the pouring rain outside of the house where people are being murdered. As she blunders her way to unlocking her bike, Jason pops up and stabs her in the back with a spear. We only have the silhouette of this death. A very artistic choice.

Silliness rating: 6.5 (For art reasons)

8. Off with his head!

8. Off with his head!

Timestamp: 14:03
Jason is thought to be dead, and his lifeless corpse is brought into a hospital, where you apparently bring dead bodies. Coroner Axel and nurse Robbie are about to have sex right next to Jason's body--because that's not weird, right? Robbie becomes upset and leaves, and Axel decides to watch an exercise video because what better way to deal with feelings for another woman not being reciprocated than jazzercise? Jason quickly pops up behind Axel and cuts his neck with a bonesaw, then twists his neck 180 degrees.

Silliness rating: 7

7. Don't make jokes in the shower

7. Don't make jokes in the shower

Timestamp: 1:07:55
While taking a shower, Doug thinks his friend is in the bathroom. He makes some jokes, and then Jason punches through the glass door, grabbing Doug by his head, and squeezing it with one hand until he is dead. Later on, you also see he was stabbed in the back of the neck, when he was hung up on a wall. He was double-murdered by Jason. The effects look cheesy, and the moments leading up to it with Doug making jokes were so bad that it makes Doug's death pretty funny.

Silliness rating: 7.5

6. Art: Part 2

6. Art: Part 2

Timestamp: 19:59
An unnamed hitchhiker is sitting on the side of the road, eating a banana. Nothing in this scene could possibly go wrong. Who ever died in a horror movie while eating a banana? Well, this person does. Jason sneaks up behind and grabs them by their hair. Then, Jason sticks a knife through their neck, which results in the victim squishing the banana. Yet again, The Final Chapter makes some real artistic choices, focusing on the squishing of the banana.

Silliness rating: 7.5 (For art and banana squish reasons)

5. Porn kills

Ted is enjoying a pornographic film from the silent era, which is an interesting choice. He's got a reel set up on a projector onto a screen. He moves closer to the screen when there is a naked woman on it, for reasons that don't make sense. However, the film is removed from the projector, and the man looks towards it to see what happened. As he turns, Jason stabs him through the screen into the back of his head. Does anything that happens here make sense? No. Is it hilarious? Very much so.

Silliness rating: 8

4. Ahh! My groin!

4. Ahh! My groin!

Timestamp: 47:35
Paul goes to find his lady, Samantha, who was skinny-dipping in the lake, lying dead in a raft. Upon freaking out, he swims to shore, makes it to the pier, and Jason impales him with a spear to the crotch. Yes, it's horrifying, but also, downright hilarious. Paul hopes he can have sex with his lady, and he ends up getting his genitals destroyed by Jason.

Silliness rating: 8

3. Talk about a headache

3. Talk about a headache

Timestamp: 1:01:05
In order to take a break from having some sex, then watching some silent-era pornography, James heads into the kitchen. He stands there for a moment--probably to contemplate his recent life choices, and then asks Ted for the corkscrew, probably to open up a bottle of post-coitus wine. However, he receives something very unexpected. Jason shows up, stabs his hand with said corkscrew. and then machetes James in the face. It's a series of events that in no way make any real sense and encapsulates the silliness of Jason's murder-spree.

Silliness rating: 9

2. What is going on here?

2. What is going on here?

Timestamp: 1:13:10
I am completely confused with what is going on here. I have watched this scene over and over again, and I can't make sense of the series of events. Gordon, the precious and friendly dog, is spooked by something--probably Jason. Gordon jumps or is thrown out the window, presumably by Jason. Or maybe Gordon was so spooked that he jumped out the window himself? It's heavily implied Jason killed this dog. Would a dog even jump out of a window like this? We never see the dog's corpse, but Gordon is never seen again. This whole scene is bizarre, and because of that, it's ridiculously silly.

Silliness rating: 9

1. Eye for an eye (Get it?)

1. Eye for an eye (Get it?)

Here's the weirdest series of events in the movie. Young Tommy shaves his head, to remind Jason he used to be a little boy who was bald and shunned from society. Upon seeing bald Tommy, Jason becomes confused and distracted. Tommy takes Jason's machete, hits him in the face with it, and Jason falls on it, eye-first, leading to Jason's head slowly sliding down it. Tommy then hacks Jason to pieces. Very satisfying death. It's overkill, but again, this is Jason, a being who keeps coming back to life.

Silliness rating: 10

Technically 15. Offscreen kill

Technically 15. Offscreen kill

Tracy was, at some point, killed off screen. We know her head was smashed into a wall, but we don't know when, since it all happened off-screen. It's a bit disappointing we don't get to see this happen because we'll never know if this murder is silly or not.
